One of my Priests[2] has been unwell from time to time for the last few months – and I deem it necessary, that he should spend some time in retirement ad salutem mentis et corporis.[3] When I had the pleasure of seeing you last year at Courtrai, you may remember, I visited Sweveghem – I found there an Institution, which would, I think, be most suitable for him. I understood, that the pension in it is about 700 or 750 francs a-year. I should wish him to remain there six months or a year, if arrangements can be made for his being received as a Pensionnaire. Now, my dear Reverend Friend, I want you in your charity to assist me in making those arrangements.[4] Will you then kindly write to the Superior and ask him to send me all particulars? If I can, and if my suffering Reverend Friend will consent, I shall send him to Sweveghem after Christmas, provided the Superior will receive him for a small pension, which some friends will subscribe for his maintenance.
I am glad to have this opportunity of wishing you an abundance of the blessings of Christmas, and many happyp2returns of the New Year.
And recommending myself and this extensive diocese to your prayers & Holy Sacrifices,
M. l’Abbé Ghiselle
