<in>3 Upper Gloucester {<=Pl>[=Place]} March 22nd. 1884 {<=Rev>[=Reverend]} & dear Father, I have only just time for a few lines to say that I have not been unmindful of your request, but it is difficult among {<-a><+our>} numer{<-[xxx]><+ous>} publications to select one suitable for your purpose - All the daily papers would be open to the same objection as the Times, with the further disadvantage<-s> of the English of some not being of the best - the Register our other Catholic paper is much less heavy than the Tablet, but the interest {<-[xx]><+is>} local & hardly likely to attract your pupils - Each trade has i[+t]s own paper, some <+such> as the Builder & Architect & British Mechanic are very good, but then they again {<-could><+would>} not be interesting to all, and the mass of trade advertisements greatly increases the weight - Chambers Journal & All the Year Round are weekly papers well written & much read, but I see they have increased the stories which may be an objection, but as you know in <-a> publications of that class they would sure to be moral - I also send you a number of Pall Mall Budget which is the weekly resumé of a daily paper. Much read even by Catholics - it is rather the organ of the intellectual & fashionable "isms" but not very objectionably so, I have marked with a cross one article which will tell you what I mean, the two others I think you would find very entertaining for your c{<-al><+la>}ss if you could afford the subscription, perhaps you would find the Illustrated all you could wish, it is well written the "Echos" are by G.A. Sala who has a great taste for hunting up words & the novelettes are good, - the illustrations would be a help to beginners and there is nothing in the principles of the paper that could offend any one seriously - If none of these will do, send me a line and I will try and hunt up something else - We are just in the midst of our moving, we hope to be in our own home on Tuesday so I must ask you to excuse haste & bad writing - Please remember me in your good prayers, Believe me, Yours very sincerely, Emily.
