I am very happy to learn from a high authority (Mr Faict, inter nos[1]) that if you apply again to come to England, no obstacle will be put any more to your wish.
So if you are not bound to the Southwark-diocese (which you scarcely can be as I have asked you, long before the Bishop of Southwark) I would recommend you to apply without delay to your bishop, or indirectly through Mr Faict to be allowed to come over to us; & you may add that you have received a direct invitation from the Bishop of Salford, as I now write in his name.
I need not say that it is as true as ever that here is messis multa & operarii pauci[2]
You are likely to do a great deal of good amongst us, by working with no other motive than to promote God’s Glory & the Salvation of Souls[3] & I feel quite confident that you will like our ways & doings.p2 So recommend the matter earnestly through our Blessed lady, & believe me
Please write a few words about your present feelings & wishes.
