Our good Bishop[1] has asked me repeatedly when we may expect you here. Of course you cannot tell us, because Mgr Malou makes his arrangements only during the holidays. However, as Dr Turner is kept from making any arrangements or changes, which are to be made now, until we know something more positive, be kind enough to drop me a few words in receipt on this, to say whether p2you are determined to do what I suggested in my last letter[2] videlicet[3] to see Dr Malou at the vacation-time or better perhaps at the distribution of prizes of Roulers, to tell him of your wish & ask him to be allowed to come forthwith.
Your position will be this: you will be with us, in order to work with me & my colleagues in our mission or parish; after two or three months you will probably be asked to go a few times in the week to the Institute[4] to render yourself useful there, until, Deo dante[5] next summer, the Institute is raised to a more important position of usefulness p3for the Church & for our laity[6] Please urge on the Bishop to be allowed to come over immediately after Lady-day[7] as it will enable our good Bishop to make some arrangements which should be made at once.
Every circumstance both at Roulers & here seems to say that it is God's will that you should come & labour, according to the measure of your abilities, for a country to which we as Flemings are so deeply indebted, & which under God’s blessings is destined to become again, as it was in the 6th & 7th century, the means of convertingp4the Pagan world. So please to send me a few words by return of post about your intentions.
To know your intention as to what you intend to do, is enough. For it is perfectly certain that Mgr Malou will grant you permission to come over[8]
