It appears that it is very important you should received Mr Superiors letters, as it is now the third or fourth time Teddy sends me notice, to tell me first that you very[1] very much disappointed not to have seen nor received a letter from Mr Superior, then again sending me fresh directions. I do not know what makes him so anxious, but I suspect it must have something to do with getting leave to come back to college after the vacation. He assured me just before leaving that it was the very first and best of all his wishes to be allowed to return and pursue his studies with the intention, as far as it should be Almighty God's will, of being once a priest; I see by his letters that he has been living up to this holy purpose by going to H. Communion once a week &c &c.p2Mr Superior, to whom he disclosed his intention long ago approved of it quite and it was with his kind leave that I tried my very utmost all last year (55-56) giving Teddy extra hours every day to get him on quick, so much so that with his own exertions and the strong appui[2] of Mr Superior we brought him as far as the third latin class in twelve months, which always takes a boy three years to go through. So there he is now in full hopes of finishing the three more that remain, praying and going to communion and wishing me to say masses (which I do) all for the same object, and the only thing I can tell him is to go on like that and trust to Providence.
I could not help availing myself of an opportunityp3to tell you these few particulars about one whom I know you love and who is also the best of my friends, if I took too much liberty I hope you will excuse, if you remember him at all, the priest that had the honour once last summer of showing you over the house of Roulers college in company with dearest Teddy Hicks and who still remains with every best wish to you and to him
