I have been away in France for my vacation. Mr. Douce died about 50 years ago.[2] The leaves in the scrap-book were removed from manuscripts and Books which he had rebound & unfortunately he kept no note of what Books. But as you have found another leaf at Audenaarde I should say that this manuscript must have become the prey of a Binder. The question is when in the 16th. or at the end of the last century. If the former, you should examine the Binding in which you found it & if it has any stamped marks on it make a Rubbing of them. I have been successful by this means in recovering several leaves of manuscripts & early printed Books.
I always keep my eyes open & on the look out for Flemish fragments to communicate to the Academy of which I am a most unprofitable member. I should be glad if you would mention that the discovery of the fragment was made by me & communicated to you. At least it will show that I am not unmindful of them when I do find something.
I am glad to hear you are well. All here are very well. My youngest boy is giving great satisfaction at Downside & we have good news of your godson Bernard. I hope you think of him in your prayers. He does not come across a priest more than once or twice in a year. Wishing you a very happy Christmas.
